Hand care in cooler, drier weather

Cooler, drier air pulls moisture from the skin around your nails, and dry hands are often the first thing people notice. The American Academy of Dermatology suggests carrying a non-greasy hand cream and applying it after each hand washing, and putting moisturizer on within a few minutes of drying your hands, when it can hold moisture in the skin. It also says creams and ointments tend to work better and irritate less than lotions.

Between visits, wear gloves for dishes, keep hand cream where you wash your hands, and press a little cuticle oil into each nail at night. Try not to pick at dry cuticles, since that is how small tears start.

Julie is both a manicurist and an esthetician, and that care carries over to what we tell you to do at home. If your hands feel dry before the holidays, call and we will find a time to look after your nails and cuticles.
