Pink October and a soft pink manicure

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A soft pink manicure is one small way to show support, and screening information is a click away.

All of October 2026.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which the American Cancer Society helped start in 1985. It is a month for talking about early detection and access to care, and many people mark it by wearing pink.

A soft pink manicure is an easy way to join in. Julie can do a sheer blush that looks natural on short nails or a deeper rose with more presence, and you can wear either on its own or with a ribbon pin. Julie carries hundreds of colors, so if you have a specific shade in mind, just say so. We are not raising funds with this. It is simply a way to show someone you love that you are thinking of them.

If you are due for a screening, the American Cancer Society publishes its breast cancer screening guidelines, and your own doctor can tell you what fits your history. Our part is smaller, a calm hour in a quiet salon. We work by appointment, so book ahead if you would like pink nails before a gathering or a walk this month.

Pumpkin Patch at Sugar Land Town Square

A fall photo spot at Sugar Land Town Square, open October 1 through November 1, with shops and restaurants a short walk away.

October 1 to November 1, 2026. Between Starbucks and the Houston Marriott Sugar Land, at Sugar Land Town Square. No charge.

Sugar Land Town Square sets up a pumpkin patch every fall as a place for family photos, and this year it runs from October 1 through November 1. It sits between Starbucks and the Houston Marriott Sugar Land, and visiting costs nothing. Most people take their pictures and then walk over to the shops and restaurants nearby.

A few practical thoughts. Go on a weekday afternoon if you can, since softer light and fewer people make for better photos. Check the Town Square's own page for current details before you head out, because seasonal installations can change.

Photos put your hands front and center, wrapped around a pumpkin or resting on a child's shoulder. We suggest booking a manicure a day or two before your photo session so the color is at its best. Deep fall shades such as black cherry, plum and cacao brown look especially good against orange. Our Sugar Land salon works by appointment, so reserve your time ahead of the date you have in mind.

Music on the Square: Aerosmith Tribute Concert

An Aerosmith tribute concert at Sugar Land Town Square on Saturday, October 17, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Saturday, October 17, 2026, 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Sugar Land Town Square. No charge.

Sugar Land Town Square hosts an Aerosmith tribute concert on Saturday, October 17, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, as part of its Music on the Square series. Admission is complimentary. The Square describes it as a night of classic hits and sing-along rock anthems under the stars.

The Square suggests bringing lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Complimentary parking is available in and around the Town Square garages. Outside food, drinks and coolers are discouraged, and guests 21 and older can bring beverages from participating Social District locations. The show is weather dependent, and updates go out on the Square's Instagram and Facebook pages.

A concert evening is a good reason to freshen your hands, since you will be raising them for photos and the occasional air guitar. A gel manicure the same day or the day before gives you a finish that lasts through the night. For a rock and roll look, ask Julie about black cherry with the cat eye add-on, which is $20 for all ten nails. We work by appointment, so call ahead to find a time that suits.

Día de los Muertos Celebration at Sugar Land Town Square

A family-friendly Día de los Muertos celebration at Sugar Land Town Square on Sunday, October 25, from noon to 5 pm.

Sunday, October 25, 2026, 12 to 5 pm. Sugar Land Town Square.

Sugar Land Town Square hosts a Día de los Muertos celebration on Sunday, October 25, from noon to 5 pm. The Sugar Land Heritage Foundation presents it as a family-friendly celebration of Hispanic heritage, with mariachi music, Folklórico and Aztec dance performances, cultural presentations, children's activities and local vendors. Town Square restaurants serve food through the afternoon.

Complimentary parking is available in the Town Square garages. Outside food and drinks are discouraged and coolers are not permitted, and guests 21 and older may bring beverages from participating Social District locations. The event is weather dependent, with updates on the Square's Instagram and Facebook pages.

Día de los Muertos honors loved ones who have died, and marigold orange, deep purple and sugar skull motifs are part of its look. If you would like your nails to join the celebration, Julie can add marigold tones or fine sugar skull line art to a gel manicure or a Gel-X set. Custom design and nail art is an add-on that starts at $5 per nail and goes up with the time and complexity of the design, so bring a photo and tell us when you book. We treat the designs as a tribute rather than a costume. Book ahead so there is time to do the detail well.

Question

Can I get my brows done in the same visit as my nails?

Yes. Julie is both a manicurist and an esthetician, so brow shaping and waxing can be booked with any other service.

Yes. Julie is trained as both a manicurist and an esthetician, so brow shaping and waxing can be booked with any other service in the same appointment. Our eyebrow wax is $12, and a Basic Manicure is $21 and takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Tell us when you reserve that you would like both, and we will set aside the right amount of time. Brows are a quick service and they hold their shape for weeks, so pairing them with another service saves a second trip, especially before an event or photos. We work by appointment, so please call ahead rather than walking in.

Service add-on

Cat eye nails: a $20 add-on over gel

Cat eye is a magnetic shimmer finish added on top of a gel manicure or set. Here is what it is, what it costs and what to expect.

  • Red and black cat eye nails on almond shaped nails, each nail showing a bright band of light across the color.
  • Deep red cat eye gel nails with a shifting metallic shimmer, photographed against red satin.
  • Dark green cat eye nails with a glowing shimmer, finished with white line art bows and swirls.

Cat eye is a finish, not a full service. It is a magnetic gel that a magnet pulls into a shifting band of light while it cures, so it goes on top of gel. On our menu it is the Chrome/Cat Eye add-on at $20, priced on top of the manicure or set you book, never on its own.

You can add it to a gel manicure, builder gel, Gel-X, dip powder or a solar or acrylic set. The $20 covers all ten nails, and it adds 15 to 30 minutes to your appointment depending on how intricate the design is, so tell us when you book. Your total is the base service plus the add-on. A Basic Manicure with gel is $38, so adding cat eye makes it $58. If you want extensions, the set is priced separately and cat eye goes over it. We would rather you know that before you sit down than be surprised at the end.

How it looks depends on the color and where the magnet sits. It reads as one effect across the nail, from a bright band in red to a deep glow in green, and it wears like the gel underneath, typically two to three weeks. Look through the photos above, then bring the one you like, since matching a picture is easier than matching a description. Julie carries hundreds of colors, and if you want a specific one she will custom match it or get it for you if she cannot. Cat eye is one of the finishes fall 2026 trend reports keep returning to.

Taking off Halloween glitter gel without hurting your nails

Peeling or prying off glitter gel can strip layers from your natural nail. Here is the safer way, what our take-off costs and when to let us do it.

Glitter gel and stick-on art are fun for Halloween week, and the trouble starts when they come off. The American Academy of Dermatology advises against picking or peeling gel polish, because it can take layers of the natural nail with it and leave the nail thin and brittle.

If you remove it yourself, the Academy's method is a soak-off. Rub petroleum jelly on the skin around each nail, cut cotton to the size of each nail, wet it with acetone, and hold it in place under a wrap until the product softens. If some remains, soak again rather than scraping it away.

You can also skip the kitchen chemistry. Glitter gel comes off the same way as any gel, and our standard gel removal is $15 on its own or $6 when you book it with a new service such as a manicure. We will take it off gently, look at the nail underneath, and tell you honestly whether it needs a rest or is ready for a fresh set. We work by appointment, so book ahead.
